removing excess line breaks from advshipper.php file?

The issue is when I have a combination of coral AND fish in the cart – when this is the case, there are inevitably more shipping options for the customer to choose from (since they’re shipped from different facilities) but it’s the setup of the shipping options within the cart that look really ugly, see photo below:

Basically, when you have fish AND coral in your cart, it’s displaying the product names below the shipping options and it’s also adding big blank line breaks in between the coral and fish, and even a big gap after the radio button/shipping options. It basically makes things a lot more messy than it really should be... I hate the idea of turning off our customers once they get to the checkout page.

In a perfect world, the coral and the fish would be cleanly separated like the JPEG mock up that I created in Photoshop below:

When you have ONLY fish or ONLY coral in your shopping cart, the shopping cart’s shipping options appear clean and simple, as shown in the screenshots below:

since i'm using the advanced shipping config by ceon, i reached out to their support, but they said that even in zencart's shipping options, setting up the shipping like my photoshop photo above is impossible. they did however say that it's possible to get rid of the excess line breaks by altering the advshipper.php file... so unless someone thinks ceon is wrong, that's all i'm looking to do here. so, does anyone have any suggestions on what i would be editing to get rid of the extra line breaks? i've combed through the file but it's pretty daunting! thanks in advance.

Looking at your source, it looks like at least some of the extra space is there because each of the options is contained within <p> tags for no reason I can see. You might find those and try removing them.

The <p> tags at least provide handles for styling, as they have class tags. Try something like this:

.AdvancedShipperShippingMethod {
    margin: 0 1.5em;
    padding: 0;
    display: list-item;
    }

The "list-item" is one of several ways you could indicate the different elements of the order, and it could be styled in any number of ways as well.

it looks fine (clean and organized) when you have ONLY fish or ONLY coral which is why this is frustrating.

may i ask where you see the <p> tags? i searched my advshipper.php file but didn't locate any <p> tags, hmm.

looked closer and think i have a better handle on this. it's not perfect, but it looks a lot better. thanks!
