Parent / Sub category question

First off... I am using V1.5.1, the install was done via a complete new installation. I was using the previous version and was working on manipulating it and didn't make any back-ups and oooopsied something so killed all the files/directories and sql off of the host to start from scratch. (I love Zen Cart)


my zen cart is located at http://jasperandjax.com/storefront and the questions that I have is probably something simple that I am just overlooking. In my category list box it has the parent cat then the sub cats listed like it should. When I click on the parent cat (ie. Automotive) the main window shows that I am in that category but that no products are listed. How do I get it to list the Sub-categories of the parent cat in the main window ? (I am also using the Sage template if that makes any difference, but I have the same issue with the default template)

A http://stufftoscrap.com/store/ is a zen cart shop that I found that does what I am trying to figure out what mine won't do ... category on theirs is "Build A Kit"

I'm am sure there is something in the forums already explaining this, but I have been googling and searching for the past few hours and can not seem to find the reasoning for it. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated or if ya know where this has already been discussed to point me that way would be great as well.

As simple as that fix could have been ... I wish it would have solved it :)

Product listing settings should be irrelevant for this, as you want (and should expect) a subcategory listing. Not sure why that subcat setting is lumped in with product listing settings... sounds like a legacy item where somebody a long time ago couldn't figure out a better place for it.

However, for some reason the program is trying to run the product listing page and rightly saying there are no products to list. Is it possible that you have a disabled product directly in Automotive?

I've check to make sure I don't have any products under Automotive at all and there are none. I've even tried deleting all categories and products and loading them back in. A strange one is I uploaded some more products early this morning and some of the categories are working like they should and some are doing like Automotive does.. Needless to say now I am really confused since its no longer an all or nothing type thing.

Were all products added manually or did you use some other means to populate them?

They were all added using Easypopulate 4.0 . I'm currently starting at square 1 beings that I accidently deleted a wrong directory or 2 on my server so going to be doing a fresh re-install of zc and then I'll split up my easypopulate csv file to try just a few items at a time and see if it was just a glitch from when I was originally setting it up. And on my CSV I am making sure this time that there are no Parent cats with prods in them from the get-go...

You might try creating the cats & sub cats manually
Then exporting this
Then adding products to the resulting spreadsheet in the proper cats/subcats

just as an update.. not totally sure what was causing the issue in the first place, but after re-installing zen cart the issue went away and the cats/products are now showing up correctly ...

Glad you got it sorted but should not have had to re-install
