Checkout cart not loading after customization

Hi I just recently downloaded zen cart and installed it on my website at dreamhost to determine whether a friend should install the web cart on their site. I am trying to customize the cart so that it looks like it is part of the entire website. I had to customize the css to make it work, but was able to get it to fit in the existing template perfectly:

if I select a product on this page it puts it in the shopping cart and it looks good, however, when I go to the check out cart, the bottom half of the page disappears. I notice if I log on, that the first page of the checkout cart will show up normal, but when I go to page 2 of the checkout it disappears again. Also I noticed the page after logging in disappears under the main logo.

I tried to look in the forum and wiki for anything related and could not find anything. I found a page about error logs in the cache, but I dont have any error logs in my cache.

On the index.php in the root, it has some css and an attached js file, however, I noticed when I remove the code between line 34 and 165 the php content displays correctly, however, the logo is gone then. I could not localize lines to remove within line 34 and 165 with greater precision in order to make the php display properly. I didnt know if this problem is due to the java script or the html formatting, but after a full day of trying to problem solve this I am still at a loss. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can make the cart work within the existing template for the website.

Thanks for the response. I ran across that page but it didn't help. I don't think it was an upload problem as I can make the page work, just not with the header graphic. I don't believe it is a syntax error as I am using dreamweaver and it shows me syntax errors. There are no error log files in either my log file or my cache file. I think it might have something to do with how the javascript file is interacting with the php code, or perhaps the css is conflicting with something, though like I mentioned before, it doesnt have any effect on some zen cart php content but it does on others. Any other suggestions?

Try switching to the classic template and see if the issue persists

Thanks, yes, it actually makes it worse. On classic all pages get truncated halfway through vs only selected ones...

Have you edited any core files?
Not in your template overrides...

I created override folders under my_own_templates, I have only edited content of files in those directories, however, I have taken files from the default_template and placed them in my_own_template to edit with out replacing/duplicating the original file in the default template folder.

...oh wait, that's just on my computers side, those files should still be there on the server side. I dont think Ive changed the original files.
