gift certificates or coupons?

Long story, but I'm trying to help someone raise money for a new van. I want to create either a gift certificate or coupon as a reward for those who contribute to her efforts. Which is better to give out?

Gift Certificates are "guaranteed" money whereas Discount Coupons can have an expiration date so the "reward" does not sit there forever unused ...

Yes, in this case it would be. Since gift certificates have an actual cash value, there's also more accounting involved with them.
