Images - Attributes Image Swatch - Question

The attributes image swatch thing.. If I add an image to this, it just shows up at the bottom of the page - irregardless of the option being selected.

I would LOVE it if I could have an item say T-Shirt. And have attribute color options: Red, Blue, Green... Then having the main product image that the user sees change when the drop-down image is changed. Is this possible?

I do not want 8 confusing images cluttering up my page, just one image displayed that changes when the drop-down is changed.

There are plugins to swap additional images
But what you want will require custom coding
