    julielcleveland,

The reason for the intermittent errors was related to upgrading the account from a 2GH account to a 4GH account. One of the many differences between the two types is what is used to determine the absolute path to your content. On 2GH it uses your primary user in it, whereas 4GH uses a randomly assigned number. We have symlinks in place on 4GH accounts that are migrated from 2GH to preserve the validity of configuration files, however in this case one of the servers in the cluster was either missing the symlink or it was broken. To fix this, we changed the configuration file to reference the 4GH style path which appears to have corrected the issue. I hope this helps.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Then your support team should know these things instead of sending me skidding off into absolute frustration with a run around set of answers. I even spoke with them on the phone for quite some time regarding this and got the same "not us response". I sent in so many screen shots of the error and continued to send in screen shots with date and time stamps and the last response I got was "we cannot help you with script errors".

Yes, my site is stable now, but I cannot say the same for myself.

My point was just to move away from GoDaddy since they are probably the worst choice for hosting an ecommerce site. As I always say - if they don't give you a summer house in Florida with your account, then it's not worth it...

Anyway, forget about setting up your own server. As Dr.Byte already said, you need to know A LOT about servers and server technology to be able to setup a good server and keep it safe from attacks. You need to maintain that server, and that takes both time and knowledge. There are probably hundreds of tutorials how to setup your own server at home, but you'll end up spending more time and money than you'd pay for a 2-year hosting plan with a high quality hosting provider. And, of course, let's not forget the security, reliability and performance that you're getting with a provider which you most likely can't achieve with your home based server. We all want to cut down our costs, but hosting is the last thing you should be cheap about because it's the first thing that affects your customer's experience - nobody likes a site that takes 2 minutes to load... And that's what you usually get with $1.99 per month hosts...

Schoolboy's suggestion to get a Reseller package is absolutely correct, although I personally prefer (managed) VPS. If you're hosting 8 sites for yourself and not for your clients, you might find it easier and simpler on a VPS than a reseller package. Perhaps I'm mistaking or it's just my own preference, but I didn't like my Reseller package and have switched over to a VPS solution.
I TOTALLY got your sense of humor :) and I think it was great that it went off into a discussion of setting up servers. I, personally, will not be doing that for many reasons, but mainly because that is not my thing. I prefer to pay a company for a service that I can count on.

Hopefully this thread is beneficial. :)

My apologies, I neglected to say thank you and I do mean thank you for both getting the site running and for letting me know.

    Hi julielcleveland,

I just moved my store from Godaddy's 4G Hosting for two reason's.

First, Page Parse Time (see below). Now, I could have lived with that for a little longer if it had not been for the next reason.

    30/11/2012 07:02:57 - /index.php?cPath=756_782_788&main_page=product_info&products_id=36318 (10.881s)
    30/11/2012 07:03:17 - /index.php?cPath=756_842_847&main_page=product_info&products_id=37639 (4.176s)
    30/11/2012 07:03:58 - /index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=687_742&products_id=34293 (57.789s)
    30/11/2012 07:04:47 - /index.php?cPath=756_811_816&main_page=product_info&products_id=37040 (10.008s)
    30/11/2012 07:04:48 - /index.php?cPath=687_746_750&main_page=product_info&products_id=34832 (1.884s)
    30/11/2012 07:06:10 - /index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=687_734_736&products_id=33993 (18.007s)
    30/11/2012 07:07:29 - /index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=876_914_916&products_id=39752 (20.670s)

Second, I had a problem with a module and it started creating Debug reports in the cache directory and the directory grew, and grew until I couldn't open it. The problem it caused only affected pages using SSL. That meant I couldn't login to Admin, and customers couldn't login to their accounts. I contacted Support and like you they told me it was my problem. O.k. I fixed the problem and even called them back to let them know what caused the problem and what I did to solve it, it case they ran across this again, because they clearly didn't have a clue.

After that call I got an email from Support and here is part of it:

    ******************************
    265,378 -- /cache
    8,241 -- /images

The amount of files/folders in the above locations can also affect our hosting administrators' ability to efficiently back up your hosting space, as well as adversely impact the performance of global maintenance operations for the shared server. Exceeding 1,024 file/folders per directory can also cause file system latency which reduces the responsiveness of all files contained on this shared server. This potentially affects not only your web hosting space, but all other customers on the shared server, and is technically a violation of our Web Hosting and Virtual Private Hosting Service Agreement.
    *********************************

So I called back and ask the Support person "how do I reduce the number of images to less than 1024 images with 6500 products" since each product has atleast one image (some had 2). He told me that as long as it didn't create a problem for the Admins I would be o.k. but if it did create a problem my account would be suspended.

Now, that is why I moved my store. That hosting is still active until March 2013.
    I didn't want to take a chance.
