    Default template widths

I've been working on the header for my website one one computer, it all looked fine. However on my old monitor (smaller) screen, it is all messed up. I noticed that my template uses 100% for the width as opposed to px. Is there a way to get the header to resize itself on smaller screens? Or do I need to be using a set pixel width and redo the images for my header? my website is www.scarletburn.com

Because you do not know what kind of monitors your site will be viewed on by the general public, it is always better to configure width to conform to "minimum" standards.

We set ALL our templates to be 980 pixels wide, which caters for about 90% of modern screen resolutions. Our view is that the 10% that do not comply are likely to belong to people who are so far stuck in the past that they are unlikely to be serious internet shoppers, so we don't bother about them.

Today, it is better to have a FIXED WIDTH, because you just do not know how the site will render on someone else's screen.

Template WIDTH is set in the #mainWrapper declaration of your stylesheet.

Between your logo image (661px wide), the banner image (686px wide) and the payment types image (195px) ... your header is very wide and unshrinkable. As you indicated, your best bet might be to go fixed-width and re-size those images to fit properly.
