Usps shipping rates are not showing at the checkout.... called usps customer service... they told me that since january, 2012 rate version calculator 2 has retired and that i need to update the coding for rate version 4.... i have searched zen cart forum for several days.... since i'm new to this, i was able to remove the the usps module in admin... the next step is to upload the file on with FTP program to includes/modules/shipping/usps.php... in admin i clicked on tools, then on Install SQL Patches, then tried to upload the file that i have previously uploaded from zen support and it shows error..... please advise what to do next.... our zen cart version is 1.3.8a.... thank you

You need to upgrade to at least 1.3.9h as your version is VERY old and fraught with vulnerabilities. Once upgraded, you can download and install the newest USPS files for installation.

Thank you so much for pointing me to the first step. This is new to me. Currently, I have a hosting company that tells me I need to talk to zen cart technical support about the issue with usps. It has been a couple of days that I'm trying to figure out where to begin. Can you please advise how to upgrade my version of zen cart and how do I deal with issue with usps after that?

Start by deciding whether you are using mods that are not compatible with ZC versions 1.5.#. If you are using a mod that is not compatible with 1.5.#, you'll need to download version 1.3.9h as it will be compatible with the mods used in 1.3.8a.

If you plan on using mods that ARE compatible with 1.5.#, then download the latest version, 1.5.1.

All versions of Zen Cart come with a docs folder that contains step-by-step instructions for new installation or an upgrade.

Not being able to see your site as it is now, I can't help much more than that. If you do list your site on the forum, do so as yoursiteDOTcom so the search engines won't pick it up and make you more vulnerable to hacks.

It may sound like a lot of work, but it can and has been done by thousands who are not coding gurus.

How do I know if the mods I'm using are compatible or not compatible with ZC version 1.5.#? Will my hosting company know? And when I figure the compatibility out where do I go to upgrade? I know there is always first time for everything and this is an interesting challenge for me. Thank you so much for all your advise.

You can use the new USPS add on plugin:

1 Go to Modules ... Shipping ... and click on USPS and save your settings to NotePad

2 Remove your old one

3 Download and copy the new one to your server

4 Install the USPS Shipping module

5 Configure your USPS shipping module from your saved settings

You do not load the files with Install SQL Patches ...

The files in the Zip of the USPS RateV3 just need to be uploaded to your server via FTP to the directories:
/includes/modules/shipping
/includes/languages/english/modules/shipping

They should be in the same directory structure as your site when you unzip the add on plugin ...
