install doesn't recognize database

A fresh hosting account with all the necessary versions of SQL, PHP, my new manual install of 1.51 gets stuck on the database set-up page. The database name, username and password are exactly as stated in C Panel under MySQL Databases. I can't seem to find a similar problem listed anywhere on this site. Please help!

If you set up the database first, using the mysql/phpmyadmin tools on the cpanel, and then you set up the user and assigned him priveledges for that particular database, and only then did you go in and install the zencart, it should work. When prompted by ZC to put your database name and user in - did you include all prefixes? For example if your login to the cpanel is user666@gigantichostingacompanydotcom then they usually configure it so that your databases automatically have the prefix user666_.

I deleted the existing database and created a new one and that solved the problem

I didn't see your post until afer my 2nd post. Thank you for the quick response. I can only think that there was some host related problem.
