Ignored stylesheets and page margins

Hi, I'm a bit of a newbie at this.

I began the day trying to get my page centred horizontally within the browser, using first the ADMIN, then my custom stylesheet.css. Now the page is spanning the whole browser window and ignores any changes I make within mainWrapper and navSuppWrapper; even changes to its background colour are ineffective now.

I'm using IE9 and Google Chrome to check, emptying caches and refreshing. Also, I have tried deleting and renaming the stylesheet, and checking the html source through F12 in the browser: the page warps, so I know for sure that it is the custom stylesheet that is being accessed.

Can anyone guide me, or any thoughts?

One of the posting tips you skipped asks that you provide a link to the site. This is a textbook example of why we need the link. It's impossible to "see" what's controlling the site without actually seeing the site.

If you're concerned about the SEs getting a look too early, submit it as mysiteDOTcom.

remove the width statement in your stylesheet for the body, and the page will center again

That is nothing short of a miracle, thankyou so much.

Along the way, I accidentally deleted the classic stylesheet, and that seems to have kick-started some of the other changes I had made into working too! Although the top and bottom navigation bars won't display now with their background-color: #473F87. Could you tell me what it is I've done wrong with that?
