trying to upload a new template

Hi all i am trying to upload a new template can any one help me

i have picked a free one from the downloads here but where do i need to save it etc in my cpanel i done as the template designer suggested but its just not working really pulling my hair out here

If you downloaded it from the downloads area here then most are structured for ZenCart and have a readme txt file and/or instructions

You need to have and know how to use an FTP client

"its just not working" doesn't tell us where the problem lies. If you correctly followed the instructions, it would have worked... unless there were something unique about your situation to cause some step to fail. So we need to know exactly what you did, and what results or error messages you received. Seeing the site live may also help us advise you.

The BEST way to get programs/folders/files onto your web server is to use FTP (File Transfer Protocol).

In order to use FTP, you will need a PROGRAM than makes a FTP connection between YOUR computer, and the remote server.

If you do not have such a FTP program, you need to get one, then install it on your HOME COMPUTER.

After you have installed this FTP program on your home computer, you need to CONFIGURE it to make that vital connection between YOUR machine, and the REMOTE server where your website sits.

Different FTP programs require different configurations, but in essence, the configuration allows a connection to be made.

Your WEB HOST COMPANY will give you (or probably has already) instructions for making this connection. These instructions are usually sent to you straight after you buy hosting space, and will include:

The NAME of the FTP server
The FTP USERNAME of your hosting account
The FTP PASSWORD
The FTP PROTOCOL being used by the hosting company (most use Secure FTP, or FTP-SSL / AUTH).

When you configure your FTP program, you will need the above four bits of information in order to create the FTP LINK to your server.

Assuming that you have set it all up, and you can make a successful FTP connection to the server, you will need to know HOW your zencart installation has been done. In MOST cases, the zencart program lives in the ROOT FOLDER of the server (public_html and httpdocs are common NAMES for this root location).

ALL ftp programs present the user with two viewer "panes". One will represent your LOCAL MACHINE and the other will represent the SERVER.

It is similar to opening a "my documents" folder in windows. You will see (in the LOCAL pane) all the folders/files on your local computer. And in the REMOTE pane, you will see all the folders/files on the server.

Then it is a case of SENDING VIA FTP the required folders/files from your local machine, to the server, making sure that you send them to the correct location. You can't just put them anywhere... they need to go into the right location(s).

All good templates and plugin modules will have a README file that tells you where they must go, so it is a case of NAVIGATING to the right folder level on your remote server, then sending the folders/files to that location.

When you MOVE files/folders on your hard drive (using windows) you are doing pretty much the same thing. Lets say you create a MSWord document, and you put it in /my_documents/ ... but later want it in a sub-directory called /letters_to_accountant/, you would create a sub-folder in my documents called letters to accountant, and then you could open a separate "pane" in windows and drag (move) the document into that folder.

Using FTP requires an understanding of the FOLDER/DIRECTORY hierarchy, and as I said... the README files usually tell you where stuff needs to go.
