Better to set up an add-on domain on the current site (in C-Panel), then go get a domain name and point it to the name servers of the current site.
The Add-on domain will live in a sub-directory (in the same way as a sub domain), and you just install a copy of zc into that sub-directory.
It's not as strong on SEO as a dedicated domain on its own server, but is is a reasonably effective way of having two shops on the same hosting account, each with its own domain.

What evidence/support do you have for this??Originally Posted by schoolboy

Anecdotal mainly... So no science behind my thinking, but here's our experience.
We had three or four clients using Add-on domains for an additional webshop. This arrangement went on for some years, and we were finding that the MAIN SITE always seemed to get good ranking, while the site in the add-on folder ranked lower in almost every other aspect.
Then (about 2 years ago) we took one of the add-on confectionery sites for that client, and put it on its own hosting / server.
Within 6 or 8 weeks it was ranking as strongly as the parent site.
We then did this with all the other clients, and again... within a few weeks they were creeping higher up the rankings.
That's all the evidence I have, but it seemed to convince me that a website hosted in a sub-directory as an Add-On domain gets ranked lower than it would otherwise be, when it;s on its own server.
I am open to other experiences and opinions...

Pop Quiz:
vcsweb.com
vcsweb.com.au
vcsweb.net
ozpost.net
ozpost.net.au
ozpost.vcsweb.net
ozpost.vcsweb.com
vcsweb.ozpost.net
vcsweb.ozpost.net.au
Some of these are 'Add-On' domains, some are hosted as a top level domain, others in sub directories. Some top level domains are hosted in sub directories on a different server. Can you identify
1) Which of the are domains are which are sub domains.
2) Where in the file system of the hosting server are these domains and sub domains located?
3) Add a 'www' in front of each of those domains, repeat Q1 & Q2
Now tell my why "www.vcsweb.com.au" (three subdomains from the top level domain ',au'' would (apparently) get ranked lower than "vcsweb.com", when unless I'm mistaken these both resolve back to vcsweb.net :)
Google will get itself into as many loops as you will if you try to sort out 'relevancy' based on domain/subdomain name :)
