As you know, AuthorizeNet allows you to sign up for a test account, and he has done that. Now he would like to see the flow of credit card acceptance through AuthorizeNet gateway. That's why I am trying to get it to function in the test mode, without a live account.

I'm with DrByte.. It's not clear why you are trying to test without a proper Authorize.net account.. What exactly is your client trying to "see"?? Is he trying to evaluate Authorize.net over another gateway?? What other gateway would he be considering, and is there a module to support that gateway??

The process (High level) is as follows:
Customer makes purchase, and enters their credit card data during checkout. The Authorize.net module contacts the Authorize.net gateway. The transaction is processed by Authorize.net and if approved the sale is finalized, the customer will be taken to the order completed page, sent an order confirmation and the shopowner is sent a order notification e-mail. if the transaction is not approved the customer will see a message in the store indicating that.

Beyond that there is nothing really to see. On the Authorize.net side the shopowner can login to Authorize.net and see their transaction history in their Authorize.net account.
