    Default Ultimate SEO Upload problems

    Hello,

i'm currently using 1.3.9h (upgrading though the 1.3 ranks) and trying to upload the Ultimate SEO module.

i've added the SagePay module only, and I host using United Hosting.

However, i'm having a little problem with Ultimate SEO module upload, namely that:

    a) I can't seem to get the .htaccess to successful run after i've changed the RewriteBase line - coming up with a Server 500 Error.

    b) I also don't fully understand what the next steps are to configuring it through the admin panel afterwards. Do you have to change http://www.mywebsite.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=936 inoto http://www.mywebsite.com/flowers/roses

Or will it automatically detect and change?

Your help is appreciated, as i've hit a brick wall...

While there is no logical reason to use this module (it does zero for seo), may I ask if your site is on a LINUX server or a WINDOWS server?

    Hello,

thank you for your response - i'm mainly wanting it for 'clean URL' - as it looks a lot nicer and easier for indexing.

we're hosted on a Linux server

    Indexing where ?

Search engines have no problem indexing dynamic URLs and in fact PREFER that the dynamic URL is not altered.

If you are intent on doing URL re-write (pointless though it is), then you should rather use CEON URI MAPPING, which does a more reliable job and is more flexible.

Indexing for the search engines, but also customer indexing (some people prefer to search by using .com/flowers/roses so they see their path.

I'm really grateful for your advice here - with CEON URL Mapping, do all the links need to be generated automatically?

What advantages does CEON have over the Ultimate SEO?

No relevancy here at all. SE's will index dynamically-generated URL's just as effectively as static.

Research by Jacob Nielsen (famous for his F-pattern research) and many others indicates that over 97% of the public pay no attention to the context of the URL. As almost all hyperlinks are embedded in <a href => tags, where a verbal or pictorial rendition of the link is articulated, the actual structure of the link itself is completely irrelevant.

One of the dangers of URL re-writing is that the "FOLLOW" capacity within the page's internal link hierarchy can be compromised, so search engines can come to "abrupt halts" when attempting to follow certain internal links if and when these are badly composed. Google warns of this, and therefore recommends that if a dynamic link is logical, it would prefer that this is not tampered with, because it gives better assurance that followable internal links will retain their integrity.

SOME platforms do not generate very "clean" dynamic URL's, and in these instances there may be some value to configuring the URL in a way that helps search engines. But it requires great care and a lot of technical skill to ensure the re-write loses none of its integrity.

But Zencart's structure is very logical and presents no challenges to search engines whatsoever - so if you are keen to really maintain good SEO, then you would resist the urge to alter your links.

Of course you are free to do whatever you wish, and the recommended path is CEON URI MAPPING. Mostly because CEON was known to have written extremely robust material for zencart.

The bottom line is simple... These modules have absolutely no SEO benefit, and there is also zero evidence that they stimulate sales. There is a RISK to adding any module to core zencart, and these mods are no exception.

I just don't see the point of making changes that add absolutely nothing to the system or have a business value, but do present a risk... That's just plain dumb in my opinion.

How long have you been using the forum?

How many times have you looked at the address bar?

    This page is called:

    Code:
    http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.php?206153-Ultimate-SEO-Upload-problems&p=1187521&posted=1#post1187521
Does that link make you panic? or do you rely - like everyone else - on the verbal rendition of links on the page?

    Think about it...

The URL makes not the slightest difference to your User Experience of the forum.
