Duplicate Meta (Title and Description) - Google Webmasters

I'm having issues with my site, according to Google Web Toolkit I have 800 duplicate titles and descriptions.

As it turns out the canonical URL only addresses duplicate content and URL issues but does not fix duplicate meta data.

I was thinking a simple fix would be to have some category meta data cascade to the product level.

For example:

Product Name/Title = Widget

Categories:
Widgets by Brand = BrandX
Widgets by Application = ApplicationX

New titles would be:
Widget : BrandX OR Widget : Application X

Is there an existing module or easy way to make this possible?

Having this same issue. Still searching the forums, not to sure if this affects SEO. But it bugs me that its there. any help guys?

I have the same issue with duplicate meta descriptions on All Products, Featured Products, New Products. Here is an example ( these have the same meta description) reported in webmaster

There's been a fair amount of "tinkering" with your html_header.php file, and perhaps some other stuff too... As we can't see what the chain-saw has been applied to, it's not possible to give an accurate assessment.

Suggest you talk to "PT" and give them a good "smack" for touching what does not really need to be touched.
