Well.... ittttssss baaacccckkk!!!
After our ridiculous government ham-fisted the HST into being and then our stupid populace voted to get rid of it again... we're once again faced with updating our tax handling.
As of today, BC based businesses no longer charge 12% HST but instead charge 7% PST and 5% GST.
IMPORTANT: The REST OF CANADA should now stop charging 12% HST for BC sales and only charge the 5% GST.
I personally decided to do something entirely different. It may sound harsh, but as of today, I'm simply refusing to sell to my fellow British Columbians. I took a very long hard look at it, and rather than dealing with the hassles of PST collection/filing/remittance, I'm instead opting to not do business in my home province. PST is too much of a hassle and does not fit well with my book keeping (unlike GST or HST where I only have to file annually and have over 6 months past fiscal year to file... PST gives you only 15 days and they make me file twice annually). I looked at my 3 years past sales, and BC sales accounts for < 1% of my total sales (0.45% actually). So its part protest, part practicality.
But for those that want to continue selling to British Columbians... UPDATE YOUR TAXES!!
