Incorrect breadcrumbs

I notice that your top categories have products directly in the category, as well as subcategories. This is known to cause errors; I don't know all the kinds of errors it could cause, but I would correct this and see if your breadcrumb etc. display improves.

Did it work that way since you first installed the template, or was there a point after that when it started misbehaving? Did you copy/link all of your products into the top categories as it appears? Or are you using a mod to show all products in top cats? If so, which one (there are several versions)? Identify all mods you installed, or particular ones you know to be installed, that relate to the product listing page.

It was working fine when we installed template then we hired a developer to do some customisation. He has probably done some customisation on category page to display the products in grid form. However the developer is no longer with us. I can PM with the relevant code if you can tell me what files you want me to grab the code from. Hopefully that gives an idea to you about customisation and where we can fix the problem.

The relevant code outputting the product/category name is likely to be in /includes/templates/your_template/templates/tpl_index_product_list.php. Post the first 40 lines or so of that file (in PHP tags - icon in textbox heading) so we can see what they have done that is nonstandard.

I did check for the file tpl_index_product_list.php and i found out the developer had renamed files which are not executed (tpl_index_product_list.php_old). I also renamed the back to the original name tpl_index_product_list.php to see what would happen when the page is loaded. Unfortunately we have the same problem. So my guess is that the developer copy the code from this file to another file which i think you are trying to say "copy/link all of your products into the top categories". So would you happen to know the name of the file that would most likely run the code.

"copy/link all of your products into the top categories" refers to an admin process. In Catalog > Categories/Products, you can copy a product to another category, either by linking the original (usually the best method) or by duplicating it (when it becomes a new product in the database with the same name and description).

You can compare the custom files you have with stock versions from a freshly downloaded fileset (same ZC version as your store) using something like Winmerge. This will show which files have been altered and where/how.
