    Default downloadable products

Is there a way that when someone places an order for something such as an ebook that it could automatically be available for download? How would I go about doing that?

Yes. Downloads are always instantly made available if the customer pays with a payment method which actually collects payment immediately, such as a credit card or PayPal, etc.

If the customer pays via check/moneyorder then the storeowner must go into the ORDER via the Admin and update the Order's status from Pending to Processing, which will automatically release the downloads. Of course, you should never do that until the check/moneyorder has been received and has cleared the bank.

Okay, I started the process of uploading files to /downloads. There is a green dot next to all the files on the downloads manager page. But I thought I heard in a tutorial that there should be visible evidence on the web page the product is a downloaded. I also set up sandbox (test) checkout but I'm not seeing anything. Any advice on how to make sure it's working right?

    Sure: buy one.
That will test add-to-cart, payment, checkout, etc. And then having seen it you'll understand better how it all works.

I tried the purchase in test mode but I didn't see anything about downloading a product. If I'm at the downloads manager and the green button shows up next to the product name, does that mean the customer will be able to download the file at checkout, or are there more steps I need to take?

Navigate as the customer to your "my account" page and the download should be there

Well, I've been using the sandbox setting to test purchases, but I tried to check out and nothing happened. Actually, when the site should have went to page 3 order final it went back to checkout. I got a bunch of codes in my email, but I don't know what they mean yet. I'm sure they're errors. Where can I find a list of payment errors and how to fix them. Or do I have to take payments out of sandbox mode and actually make a purchase?

Sandbox mode is a complicated thing. Your 10002 error (which you posted elsewhere) is caused by having the wrong credentials entered into your ZC module settings. Such as using sandbox credentials when you've got the module in Live mode, or vice-versa.

Always easiest to test with a real live transaction.
