Additional data, information or text capture during checkout

Hi All

I’m currently trying to find a way for our Zencart shop to request additional information form a customer if they purchase a certain product.

For example when we sell a software product many of the suppliers require us to capture and order with full confirm end user and reseller details the software will be registered in (eg, company name, address, phone, contact person, physical address). This needs to be mandatory information during checkout but is only required when a software product is sold (we are currently using the product is virtual in our store to differentiate this and works well from the shipping side of things).

Please could you let me know if there is an easy way to capture this information during checkout and if there is any existing plugin’s that might do the job (I’ve tried to have a look but could not seem to find anything that would fit these needs).

Many customers also purchase a range of software (for example 3x copies of software product ‘xyz’ and 2x copies of software product ‘abc’)... it’s only required for us to ask for the confirmed end user/reseller registration details once during the checkout.

The easiest (built-in) way to do this would be to add text attributes to the relevant products, and make them "required".
This would necessitate entering the info for each product, though, so would obviously be less than ideal for you.

Hi Gjh42, thanks very much for your reply, this is something I read about in the Zencart forums as well but as you also noticed due to it being required for each product it's unfortunately not possible for us to use which is a real shame.

The only way I could think of it working for us would be for some kind of user input plugin during checkout but there does not seem to be allot of details/information that I can find on this kind of request.

Most of the information you've identified (customer name, company, address) are already gathered for an order and written to the database "automatically". Are you gathering different information that would be used as the credentials with which the customer desires to register the software product?

Hi Lat9,

Yes that is correct the details we collect will differ to the customer purchasing as we are a distributor who sells to reseller/integrators (we do not sell directly to the end user).

We also need to get the cusotmer to confirm the correct Reseller details as well as the end user details... You are correct in saying the reseller details (peple that purchase from us) might already have the correct details registered in the system so perhaps these details could be loaded automatically and all they will then need to do is the following:
1) confirm the reseller details loaded are correct and accurate (pre-populated for the software order)
2) enter and confirm the end user details that the software will be registered to.

Hope that makes sense and is a little more clear to my original post...
