help question Hiding the website header on most pages...

    Hi,

So my boss is wanting me to set up zen cart so that if someone is on our homepage it'll show up with the big company banner at the top...

But then if that person navigates away from the homepage (eg. starts browsing products and such) we want the top header / banner image to be hidden...

The idea basically is that we have a massive header image, we really like it and don't want to change it. However we've just introduced top category images, so when someone is browsing our products they have to go about half way down the page before they get to see our products. So we thought if we could hide our header image from all pages but the homepage then it should work...

Anyone know how I'd go about doing this?

    regards and thanks,
    Dave

The fact that YOU all get a thrill out of your massive company banner, is (in my opinion) NOT a good reason to blast it in front of your customers.

They have come to see PRODUCTS - not the egotistical result of the "creative team".

MOST of the powerful online retailers give a handful of pixels over to their logo, which is discreetly placed at the head of EVERY PAGE - a VERY important feature. (Visit AMAZON to see what I mean). You wish to HIDE yours once the visitor enters the meaty part of the site, which makes no sense whatsoever.

Go back to marketing school... This idea lacks basic marketing sense.

HOWEVER... if you wish to proceed with this harebrained scheme, then the headers can be hidden /made visible using specific CSS files.

Do you want the easy method or the hard method?

The hard method is to learn .css and a little .php and create your own template(s)/theme(s) from scratch.

The easy method is to identify a zencart site that looks and behaves something close to what you want. Identify the template/theme that they are using, install the same template/theme to your store, then tweak to suit.

To help get you started, is this something like you are after?

This particular zencart site uses a commercial template (the client purchased it before I had any dealing with the site). I'm sure that there will be a similar freeby one in the zencart add-ons area though.
Please keep in mind that when comparing templates you should only consider the *layout* and *functionality* (most template affect layout far more than functionality). What you should *not* consider when looking at templates are the fonts and colours, as these are easy to tweak/customise.

    Cheers
