I created a category called Women’s Perfume which contains folders of brand names. Such as this:
Van Cleef & Arpels
Vera Wang
Versace
Inside each of those folder are products by those brand names. I set each of those individual products a Master Category, being the brand name. What happens is that at some time after, a few days, a week, I’m not really sure because it doesn’t seem to happen all at the same time to all products, the Master Category reverts back to Women’s Perfume.
A couple of things. I have tried my site a few different ways and this is the best way to set it up, with the Women’s Perfume category as it is. Next, if the Master Category “holds” for even a few days, why wouldn’t it hold forever?
I'm assigning Master Categories by clicking the C and then Multiple Categories Link Manager. Then I select the brand (it will be currently set to Women's Perfume), then I scroll to the bottom of the page, and I enter the Master Category in the last box: Reset the Master Categories ID for All Products in Category. I click Reset Mastger Categegories ID. I get a confirmation at the top of the screen and I even double check in admin or my site.
I set Vera Wang so you can see the difference when a product is set and when it isn't.

In Vera Wang you can move within the Prev/See All/Next and stay within the brand Vera Wang.
When the Master Category is set to Women's Perfume and you click on a brand, let's say Marc Jacobs, if you click on the first product and then click on next, you are out of the Marc Jacobs brand when there are actually 3 products in that brand. In order for it stay within the brand it has to be set to the brand.

I’d love to hear an answer on this.
Thanks!
