    Default SSL install

I am about to try and install a shared SSL in my new web store. I am using Zencarts tutorial on how to install SSL after Zencart has been installed. It says to review the secure link your host provides you to be sure there are no errors. When I click on what they have given me. it lists all of my stores data in more of an unformatted display look. I am concerned to move forward with this as the directions say installing the SSL if something is wrong can break the whole site. Should this https site look exactly the same or is this unformatted look to be expected.

The unformatted look is unsurprising and is not a problem.
The important thing is that the page loads *something* and doesn't give a 404-not-found or 403-forbidden or 500-internal-server-error message.

So, you should be good to go.

Once you get it set up, the formatting issue should go away.

Great. One more question. Since this is a shared certificate, the secure url is one of those under their name and my account. The directions discuss this hosting name being listed as part of the url for customers at certain times. Did I understand this correctly that it would only be when that secure link is used say when submitting payment or entering a password?

The web address using our store name will still show most of the time like finging our site or under Google searches etc., correct?

Correct. You'll see it in action as soon as you complete the instructions.

I am making the changes. However the code does not seem to be EXACTLY the same as the directions say. I'm in 1.5.1 and using the Avonlee_contempo template (assume irrelevant). The the admin config file has the false setting for both a storefront or catalog section and an admin section. Do I just do admin or both?

I believe the other config file only had one but I will go back and check.

Timed out. I see the correct directions now but still one question. The directions say only change the catalog https server to the new secure url, not the regular https sever. Is that correct? I am setting the regular https sever to true, why not the secure url? Did it lose a line printing (top).

The FAQ article is written longer so that it can cover a thousand possibilities of the hundreds of thousands of various hosting company server configurations, and the hundred thousand different peoples' situations that arise because of that variety.

Here's the short version of the instructions:

    ADMIN:
HTTPS_SERVER -- needs your HTTPS URL in there.
    ENABLE_SSL_ADMIN -- 'true'

For the sake of consistency, feel free to also set HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER to your https URL too, and set ENABLE_SSL_CATALOG

    NON-ADMIN:
HTTPS_SERVER -- needs your HTTPS URL
    ENABLE_SSL -- 'true'

OK. Think I'm good to go. When I looked at the permissions before any changes were made, they were set at 440. I thought they were supposed to be 444. I will leave them 440 but most of the videos I watched were using 444.
