Question about Fast & Easy Checkout (FEC)

Sorry if this is not a good place for this post. i didn't see where else to post. and the Numinix thread on FEC is closed.

i've installed the FEC plugin but want to, for various reasons, just turn it off temporarily. I def don't want to uninstall it. so i re-instated the original tpl_checkout_default.php but when clicking on checkout button it still goes to
https://www.mywebsite.com/index.php?...fecaction=null

curious, because the hyper-link of the checkout button in the status bar reads

index.php?main_page=checkout_shipping

what is the mechanism that send index.php?main_page=checkout&fecaction=null ..?

and is it possible to turn this module off temporarily?
