Majic Quotes - Can I turn off?

Can I turn off Magic Quotes on my server

Zen Cart properly handles Magic Quotes if they are enabled.
Contemporary versions of PHP have Magic Quotes disabled, and latest version of Zen Cart detects that and operates accordingly.

As for configuring your server, you should really talk to the hosting provider for these domains and have them help you to properly address this issue ...

They told me to ask ZenCart and Joomla if they are needed..

Does ZenCart require them ON for ZenCart to work

Zen Cart turns them off anyway. So, yes, it's safe to turn them off.

Why are you asking about Magic Quotes in the first place? The only time I've ever seen anyone ask about that has been because they're wanting to upgrade their PHP version to one that doesn't support Magic Quotes in the new PHP version.

And, in that scenario, that probably means you're trying to use a PHP version that's not compatible with older than ZC v1.3.9. So that's really the more important question you should be asking: Is your Zen Cart version compatible with the PHP version you're trying to install.


Yes, 1.3.8 thru 1.5.1 turn magic quotes off automatically.

The reason I'm asking is that

ON my hosting I have some Tools in my Cpanel that I can't use now as they say my Magic Quotes are ON.. and need to be off.. on my Managed Server..

So I emailed them my hosting provide and told them i'm running Zencart and joomla they said go talk to them to see if its needed..

So here I am asking..

and go the correct answerer now..

My server run's my old zencart just fine.. i'm using 5.3.23..
