Catalogue/Images 777 Permissions

I've been using Zen Cart for years now but this is the first time I'm actually upgrading...so bear with me.

I've upgraded three carts now. But the first cart, I didn't read the directions properly and instead of changing catalogue/images and the sub-directories to 777 permissions, I changed only the ones listed in the doc's instructional.

The Second two sites I did it right.

The first site seems to be working fine. But wondering if this misstep is going to cost me something down the line? I did go in today and change the folder and all subdirectories to 777...will that cover me?

If all is good now (IOW: As long as you can add product images without producing any errors) then you don't need to worry about and problems down the line.

Good question.
Personally I tend to avoid '777' permissions where possible, because this is the least restrictive permissions possible, and some sites will even cause a problem *because* of this, so rather than 'cover' you this could potentially cause you grief down the line.

I suspect that your previous permissions were set to either 775 or 755, in which case, I'm inclined to tell you to set it back to what it was because that will be the safer option.
