Default Choose Quantity Box Not wanted when weight attribute for shipping

Hi, (Info: installed via 1-click from hosting company; Haven't upgraded; no extra plug-ins/add-ons installed; shipping module used is per unit; php version used by server is 5.3.24; mysql version used by server is Client API version 5.5.19)
I have looked in the FAQ area & searched the forum for an answer with no luck.
URL wth example of problem: http://kelleywebdesign.com/print/ind...roducts_id=176

My Question: I have different shipping fees for each quantity ordered, up to 18. When ordering 19 or more, the shipping is free. I have set different fees, using the weight as the shipping fee, so my product page is displaying a "Please Choose" quantity drop-down. I don't want this box to be displayed, (and it doesn't even add any products to the shopping cart anyway).
How can I get rid of that drop down box.
    Thank you so much, K

Also, once I have the shipping set for 18 or fewer products, how can set up free shipping for 19 or more products, without setting an attribute for each quantity from 19 to infinity, if that makes sense. I'm sure I'm missing something here.

    Welcome to Zen Cart!

I'm afraid that (as many do) you've put the cart before the horse. The horse being a completed product properly presented to the customer.

Here's my thoughts which you can follow or not.

You've just started and did two things that will haunt you in the future:
    1. You've used a one-click installer.
    2. You are using the classic template.

    Reasons for the problems:
    1. There is no one-click installer that is either know to accurately install Zen Cart nor is any endorsed in any way.
    2. Using the classic template will mean certain loss of data when you perform an upgrade. See http://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?...verride-system.

I have different shipping fees for each quantity ordered, up to 18.
First of all, nothing on the product page that is presented to the customer affects shipping. This is all done in the shipping module(s) based on the weight or quantity ordered.

There are only two ways the dropdown could have appeared without you specifically setting it:
    1. You copied an existing product with the attributes already attached.
    2. You added the Option Name and values in the Attributes Controller.

Since the Option of Quantity is not in a demo of Zen Cart, you must have loaded it yourself. You will need to enter the Attributes Controller to remedy this BUT, there's more you need to consider.

A better listing of available product will increase your sales. If a customer has to order different colors from different pages, they will go elsewhere. Same can be said about size.

So, if I am going to sell t-shirts in black and white, I will have a color attribute AND a size attribute. Then, the customer can select color and size on each page rather than traveling around the site to find what they need. You can add attributes for graphics to the same page.

Each attribute should be a viable choice and should have a "Please Select" as the first option value with a For Display Only and Marked Selected.

You can even add an Option Name of Front Graphic and Back Graphic. With Option Values of Please Select, No Thanks, Yes, use your design, Yes, use our design; you'd have the options available for each shirt AND the customer would have to make a selection or the item(s) would not be added to the cart. Keeps incorrect orders to a minimum AND the neatest most funnest part..... Having all the shirts ordered from one product will help you with quantity discounts and shipping that you are trying to accomplish.

    Bottom line:
    1. Slow Down
    2. Take a Deep Breath
    3. Consider a proper install before continuing. You can save your database, create a new install of 1.5.1, and overwrite the newly created database with your old copy.
    4. Make yourself more familiar with the Override or Custom Template system. Avoid store-bought as they create their own gnarly problems.
    5. Use the demo products to see how the Attributes can be used better in your case. An example of Attributes on steroids is http://gomagnetic.com/index.php?main...products_id=51
    6. If you are not the subject matter expert on the product(s) you sell, make sure you consult someone who can make the process as simple as possible for the customer.
    7. Last is content. Content is king. You have nothing stating what product id 176 is except for the title. I realize your just starting but the search engines were there within hours of your creation. It will take you months to undo a first impression. Plan a product, its content, its layout and THEN create it.
    8. Get the site and products ready and shipping will be easier.

Thank you dbltoe, I am totally willing to reinstall manually, and I'm not concerned about damage tot he database- if it happens, it happens. But now my question is, how difficult is t to install zencart on my own? I know a little, but am far from being an expert. Kelley

Back up your old Database if you want to save store settings and any products you've added. If not, just follow the instructions as a new install. Zen Cart will overwrite the database.

Delete the files for your existing site. This will insure that nothing out of place remains from the old one-step installation.

Go to http://www.zen-cart.com/getit, click on the CURRENT listing, and select the version (1.5.1 for you).

Save the file to your computer and unzip the file. It will create its own directory. There's a docs folder in the one you unzipped. Click on the index.html files and you'll find the instructions. Read item 3. Follow the steps.

Let us know if you have any glitches.

I think this is more of a learning experience opportunity rather than a time for short cuts. There may just be that one thing that helps in the journey.

Okay, reading the installation instructions for a manual install. Databases scare me, abut I'm willing to give it a shot. K

If you're referring to my method, I'll respectfully disagree. I don't see any value in stumbling around trying to install Zencart manually (though the installation guide in the /docs folder is very good) when a quick and easy method is available. Installation is something most Zenners will only do once, so lessons learned there through trial and error don't mean much. Better, I think, to save the cursing and rubber-brick-at-the-monitor-throwing for figuring out the admin .
