    Who is "They" ... ?

Aside from the technical answer you seek, it is not a good marketing idea to have out-bound links on an eCommerce site.

It's like standing at the door of your shop, and when customers try to come into the shop, you are saying: "hey... don't come in here... Go to that guy across the road."

Now that's just plain dumb, don't you think?

If you really want to let people leave your shop quickly and easily (with a link to someone else), then you will need to tell us WHERE you want that link (image) to be located. Depending on WHERE you want the link will determine the METHOD you use to create the link.

And while you can use C-Panel to LOAD the image to the server, it is better to use a proper FTP program. I suggest WS-FTP-Pro.

Getting the image onto the server does NOT mean it will "just show up" on the site.

You need to WRITE the link URL and <img src> code to one (or more) of your PHP files.

Schoolboy *is*, as you state, right. But back to your request, start with a link to your site and perhaps a screen shot of exactly where you'd like the image, there are after all two 'sides', did you mean left/right sidebar or towards the left/right of your centre column?
If you Santorum a sidebar then I suggest the 'blank sidebox' mod from add-ons area as a starting point. Once you've made your choices we'll be able to help.
