Attribute Help

Ok, I read alot of the threads on attributes but am still confused some. Basically I am wanting to do the following and if someone can help me understand how to do this I would greatly appreciate it.

I operate a gunshop and there are many different manufactures that have the same model but with different calibers / pricing. I would like to be able to list 1 manufacturer/model with different options with pricing etc.

Example.

Remington UMC Ammunition
1. 9mm - $9.00 per box (just an example)
2. 45ACP - $12.00 per box (just an example)
3. 40SW - $14.00 per box (just an example)

Min. Order 5 boxes.

Is this possible with Zen Cart. Each caliber would have it's own model number and possibly it's own price.
I guess I am confused on the option names, attribute controller etc, basically all things attributes.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You could easily do that with attributes, other than the model numbers (unique attribute model numbers aren't supported in Zencart currently). It would be unusual, though, in my experience, and might cause some confusion. Generally, the caliber is the main product (in the Handgun Ammunition category) and the manufacturer is an attribute of that, with different pricing.

Tough time to be in the gun biz. I see that almost all of the guns you sell are Sold Out, just like every other online gun shop I've looked at.

Yeah the firearms industry is interesting to say the least. Not much available for me to sell as you can see and probably know. I want to make sure that I understand you correctly. I would like to have the following.

1. Ammunition-Handgun-Centerfire
Remington UMC as the Main Product and then the different calibers like 9, 40 and 45 as the attribute.

So I would go to Catalog-Option Name Manager and enter 9mm or whatever caliber in the option name select a sort order and click insert.

Then I go to Attributes Controller and select my Option Name and input my price.

Do I input my price in the box (es) that have the + sign or what. I am just confused on this.

I am working on redoing my site and wanted to try and simplify things but not so sure it is working that way for me.

Looking at your site and just trying a few things like a search on either:
CCI
AGUILA

then flipping through the Products I would keep it out of the Attributes and leave it as you have it now or think of a different plan relating to the Categories and Products relationship based on would leave what you have as is, then add additional Categories that might make something else stand out and I know zero about guns but maybe would be useful to have Ammo Categories like:
.25
.32
.40

Then copy the Products as "Linked Products" from the current Categories that they are in ...

Now I can look at the .32 Category and flip through the .32 products for my one gun quickly ... then jump to the .40 Category for my other gun quickly ... or go back to the "main Category" for Centerfire or Aquila etc.

This would aid in searches etc. as you can now search on:
Aquila .40
CCI .40

where if you had moved the .25, .32, .40 into Attributes you would lose the search capability, stocking benefits (as attributes sell the .25 or .32 or .44 would reduce stock on all 3 vs reduce stock on a Product .25 when a Product .25 is purchased ...

It depends. Attribute pricing can be set up either as an additional charge onto a base price (that's what the + and - are for), or as 'priced by attributes' (set as such on the admin product setup page). In that case it won't say +4.00, just 4.00 as the price of that option.

Priced by attribute: (which is probably what you want to use, unless the relationship between 9MM and 45ACP prices is always the same)

1. 9mm - $9.00
2. 45ACP - $12.00
3. 40SW - $14.00
