Ok that makes sense .... So I guess it would be better to use inventory numbers for my pics and then I can leave the option for multiple pics open?

You can use whatever you like, but if you use words that people search for, then you give yourself an added edge in SEO. Hyphenate to use multiple words. Add numbers if you like. You could even start with a brief inventory number followed by a hyphen and then a word or two to describe it.
The key is to make the main image filename unique.

Just to verify.... as you can see I have several football charms so for example... if I name the pics the following they won't read them as multiple pics of the same item?
100_footballlrg.jpg
101_footballbling.jpg
102_footballlrgblacksilver.jpg
...
as long at the beginning of the name is different?

Awesome! Thank you soooo much!

It's not the "beginning" being different that does it, it is the fact that no image name starts with another image's full name.
footballlrg.jpg
and
footballbling.jpg
would work fine, but
footballlrgblacksilver.jpg
would be treated as an additional image for footballlrg.jpg, since it starts exactly with footballlrg.
Just adding otherwise meaningless numbers to the names is probably less useful than making all names distinct enough that they won't get confused. If you have several footballlrg type products, you might name them footballlrgplain, footballlrgblacksilver, footballlrgredgreen, etc.
If 100, 101 and 102 are actually your stock numbers or something, then great, use them.
That was my original understanding but when I changed the footballlrg.jpg to footballlrgoriginal.jpg it didn't help. I'm going to go in there and look around now to see what will work. I want to be able to add multiple sample pics to other categories or I'd just turn the darn thing off!
