    Default Metatag Keywords

Even though I am adding my own Meta Tag Keywords under Meta Tags Defined (action=new_product_meta_tags), it is appending the generic site keywords (CUSTOM_KEYWORDS) from meta_tags.php to the end of the <meta name="keywords" content= of the html page.

How can I prevent this from happening?

Scroll down and take a look at the similar threads. Just so you know, the LAST thing used to rank, find, or label a site is a keyword. They've been so abused that any worthy SE will just ignore whatever's there.

If not useful, the question becomes, why do they still exist and why leave the functionality in Zen Cart?

Thank you for the feed back.

Keywords have fallen out of favor over about the last 5 years SE's opting for linkage between human readable description and meta description
That is until over about the last year where Google has been altering their approach to weight more the description and "micro data"

There are Meta Tag Keywords and Meta Tag Description in ZenCart you should weight the description if adding them to products and investigating micro data

We still have our customers use them just in case but, not for ranking.

We suggest using a pad and creating keywords (simple one- or two-word bullets) for each product, category, or page stressing uniqueness for each.

From those keywords, we stress the development of the title and description. It doesn't matter whether it's a page, category, or product. The title should be short while the description (or page content) expounds on the keywords.

In doing this simple exercise, clients find themselves meeting or exceeding their competition's standing almost immediately.

We feel that too much emphasis is placed on pretty or SEO. Content is king with the SEs.

One of the big mistakes is copy and paste. Reviewed a site recently that copied the description of their product from their supplier. That exact paragraph was found over 16K places by Google. With unique content, you might be able to rise above that competition.

As Kobra alluded to, microdata tags are the new and exciting kids on the block. Entrepeneur.com has a nice intro to the tags. With a microdata tag, you can pinpoint the exact location of your business and any smartphone will create a link that will direct them to your location. That's just one of the neat features.

IMHO, one only needs to load ZC, follow the exercise above, add any pertinent microdata, add minimal mods (IH, EMP, etc), set payment/shipping, add products, and open for business. The "pretty" can happen anytime and not affect rank. Most make the mistake of focusing on "pretty" or SEO and wonder why their site keeps jumping from page to page in Google. And, there is no SEO better than proper content.

Image Handler (version 4 for 1.5.#) and Encrypted Master Password. You can use most any lightbox item to go with IH but we prefer Fual Slimbox. If you go with fual slimbox, be sure and read posts 33 and 57 of http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.p...limbox-Ver-2-0
