Default Need help w/ variable flat rate shipping due to item size

    Hello,

My name is Jesse, new here to the forum and Zen Cart, just read a bunch of different threads and didn't see exactly what my case entails.

My sales are in rings, wire, and uncut coils for chain-maile and jewelry makers and the website is ogrerings.com

What I want to have is flat rate shipping for up to 4 pounds of any rings be $5.15 (US only) and for wire (separate item type not to be confused) a flat rate of shipping of $11.50 for 1 pound up to 25 pounds (US only).

The way it is setup now shipping for 1 pound of wire costs $5.15 and if you add 17 units of rings (all are sold in 1/4 pound units, so 17 = 4.25 pounds) to the cart shipping comes to $5.15.

What needs done to achieve this? Also, if a customer wanted to order say 5 pounds of wire and 5 pounds of rings and both could fit in a flat rate box for $11.50 shipped, how could I have the cart compute this? The variables might change, but I could adjust this later, just an example would be good.

I'd also like to add flat rate international shipping, but believe if this part can get straightened out then that can be achieved from there.

I apologize in advance if I'm breaking any of the forum rules, just really want to get this going is all.

Hope to get some help soon, thanks in advance to anyone that does,
    Jesse

    Okay,

Ended up changing from flat rate to a table rate and have it so now when you order 4# or more of product in an order it goes to the $11.50 shipping rate. Gave all the items a weight and went something like this: module/shipping/table rate (true), then put in a figure which I don't exactly recall but gave $5.15 for up to 4# and $11.50 for over 4#. This is good for now, but might alter this a little in the future depending on this next question:

Is there any way to make one product type one flat rate for shipping domestically?

Another question, is there any way to make international shipping one flat rate but only up to a certain weight amount?

Note to anyone who sees this in the future, if you go to a table rate and the weight of items in the cart is more than what it should be then go and check your tare weight. Believe that was in the config/shipping section, this was set to 4# for me and set me back some time figuring it out. Basically it added 4# to the package before anything was added to it which automatically jumped the cost of shipping to $11.50.

Gonna be good at this zen-thing before too long, hopefully!
