Email order confirmation not working

I am testing the site and recieve email when a user account is set up, when the contact page is used etc etc but dont recieve email notification of an order even though the order appears in admin/orders...can anyone help

That's usually a result of an error happening during the step of saving the order and sending the email.
You can view the actual errors by looking at the system error logs.

In modern versions of Zen Cart those are in the /logs/ folder.
In older versions, they're in the /cache/ folder.
