    Default Attribute Disaster

    Hi guys:

I have been working with ZenCart for awhile and didn't realize that I was setting up my attributes terribly wrong. This is the situation. I have, unfortunately, created an option name for each of the option values in my store. I didn’t realize until just recently that I should have a single option name and add multiple option values to that name. I know that I need to delete several of the option names. My problem is that after I click delete, I’m lost.

In this case I want to delete #22 Your Color, which is a dropdown. (Screenshot – Option Name). When I click Delete, it takes me to the next screen Product Options ID. (Next screenshot – Product Options ID).

I am not sure what to do here. There are three Options here:

    1. Delete ALL Option Values to ALL products for Option Name
    2. Delete ALL Option Values to ONE products for Option Name
    3. Delete ALL Option Values to ONE Category of products for Option Name

I don’t know which one to choose, nor do I know which choice is right for the dropdown list on the left. There are a lot of “Your Color” to choose from. I know you can’t see this from the screen shot.

I am pretty much starting over with this thing and I definitely need help.Click image for larger version.

As usual, thanks in advance for you assistance here. I know this is going to take a lot of time but I have no alternative.

Is there anyone who can help with this situation? I am pretty much at a standstill until I can get this figured out and move on it. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could lend a hand. The name of the site is www.petluxuryboutique.com.

    Thank you,

    Silver

You currently have multiple exact duplicates of option name/values sets, correct? Do all of the products these are applied to have other attributes? If so, I would go ahead and delete the second and following option names from all products, as this will not affect the first option name. (I would leave the first option name of each type just for simplicity.) Then I would copy the attributes from the product with the first set to each of the others that should have that set. If all products, or all products in a category, should have that attribute set, use the appropriate copy choice and make your task easier.

If there are products that have only the (duplicate) attribute sets, you will want to copy the first attribute set to those before deleting the duplicates. This is because the copy-to functions do not work on products that have no attributes at all. You can still do it if you delete first, but you will have to do it one at a time in Attributes Controller.

As per usual, thank you for your reply. As you can see. I am in trouble. Unfortunately, I have to leave for a needed Doctor's appt so I won't be able to deal with this until later. I will probably have additional questions for you. I hope that's OK? I have exact duplicates of option names and some values. How do I know which are the second option names. I suppose the 2nd screen is where I don't know what to do exactly.

You are not doing this experimentation on a live site are you?
You must have a duplicate site where you can practise this sort of experimentation without the stress, then you'll know as well as anyone how it works, much quicker than asking questions piece-meal.

As well install and use Dr Byte's Backup Mysql plugin on your duplicate site.
You can experiment and undo mistakes very quickly using this.
