Default Add extra define_xxx.php to main page

    Hi all,

I am working on www.pawsandclawspettags.co.uk, using version 1.5.1. I would like to use the basic slideshow (see example on www.fossilandrock.co.uk) on this home page just above the text. One option is to add the code to the define_main_page.php, however this means every time you want to change it, you need to set the editor to Plain Text. If you keep it at any other editor it messes with the slide show. My customer is not tech savvy so want to help them to make it easy. How can I add an additional define_xxx.php, which can be added just above my home page text, or where can I add this code (I tried tpl_index_default.php but it does not seem to work) so you can independently either update the home page text or amend the slide show? Hope this makes sense! Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Why not use the banner manager for the slideshow.. this doesn't require your client to be tech savvy at all.. the ZY Slideshow is a great slideshow which does this.. It uses the Nivo slide which makes it responsive to boot..

Thank you for the quick reply, but the host has an issue with banner traffic, etc., this is why I want to use the same sort of slider as Fossil. Any suggestions?

Do NOT mistake the Zen Cart banner function with "banner ads", "banner/link exchanges" or any other archaic definitions of web "banners" that you are thinking of..

Simply put while the banner management functions of Zen Cart could be used for these kinds of things, they can also be used for SOOOOO much more.. I have said frequently that the banner management features within Zen Cart are the most under utilized and POWERFUL features in Zen Cart.

They are simply areas to add fixed positioned omni-present content on certain parts of the page. There are 6 default banner positions as well as the sideboxes. Mod authors are starting to make use of this function (ZY Slideshow is one of them), and Picaflor Azul has replaced the slideshows she bundles with many of her templates to use this same functionality and avoid folks messing up the slideshow when they edit the main page defined page..

My clients use them for things like store announcements (vacation messages, current and upcoming sales in the store, etc). I have used the banner sideboxes for adding things like free shipping notifications, important logo links to things like blogs, forums, affiliate sites, and even rotating information like credit cards accepted, and the Authorize.net seal. Happy to show you examples if you need to SEE what I am referring to..

Using the BUILT-IN banner manager functionality to manage a slideshow is an EASY way for your non-tech clients to add/remove slides without having to know any HTML or coding..
