Customer "Groups"

Is it at all possible to create customer "groups" that could either be defined manually by an administrator or perhaps by X number of purchases, etc?

To clarify, I'd like to create separate "tiers" of products. Once a customer spends a specific amount on the shop, they unlock the next tier of items, unavailable to anyone below the defined threshold.

This seems like it'd require a ton of edits, but I'm hoping there may be a workaround of even a plugin that I may have overlooked.

How about this plugin(Category Specific Access Restriction (CSAR)), found by searching the plugins using the word customer. 6 pages returned, and I think I found it on page 3.

CSAR is not designed for this purpose. However, parts of it could be used (to some extent) to create custom coding to achieve the desired outcome.

You can create pricing groups and assign customers to them (Customers > Customers and Customers > Group Pricing).
This could be adapted to trigger code that hides or reveals categories/products, perhaps the CSAR code.

There's also the hideCategories (http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=254) plugin that might be adaptable to handle your situation.

I've adapted the MultiSite module to serve this function in the past. Although it's the same site you have complete control over the 'two' viewable templates including their 'shared' categories.

Remember it's two templates using one database.

There's no coding to change, just your perspective of how you're using the tool (in this case MultiSite) :)
