Featured Categories on Main Page

Hi,

I ran across a ZenCart site that has featured categories, and products from each of those categories, as featured items on the main page of the store. I would rather not link the site directly but I have taken a screen shot of what it looks like so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about. I would love to know how to do this... I am assuming it is an add-on but I haven't had much luck finding it. I did find a "featured categories" add-on that hasn't been updated since 2010 but there is no demo or even explanation of what it really does so I am hesitant to install it. I don't think (but am not 100% sure) that is what this store is using anyway. Without further ado, here is the screen shot. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I quickly reviewed the older add on, it looks like it can be adapted to v1.51.
