    Default Description problem in .csv file

    Hello, if this isn't the appropriate forum to post please advsie and I'll move it or fee free to move it if you are an admin. Thanks

    I just noticed while working with the Google Merchant feed that part of my longer descriptions were missing from the description column. I checked my site and it's the same so I'm thinking it's in the way I'm taking the .csv file that my suppliers provide and creating a .csv file of my own to upload using Apsona. Seems like I ran into this a few years ago but can't remember how I was able to correct it.

    Is anyone here familiar with Excel enough that might know what I'm doing? To describe what I do...I have two monitors and put the suppliers .csv file on one and a template .csv file that I downloaded from my site. The I just copy and paste the columns I need from the suppliers to my template then save it as a .txt (msdos) file to upload using Apsona.

    Seems like before it had something to do with the way I was saving it and reopening it but I've been playing around with it and can't seem to duplicate it.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jim

    In the ZC database changing the character limit of the field you're having a problem with will allow the field to hold more characters.

    To troubleshoot we'll need to know the order/flow you are collecting data from start to finish.

    Recently I dealt with a client moving data from eBay to ZenCart using exceptionally long product_name fields. Changing the ZC db field character length fixed the problem only because it flowed like this:
    eBay-> Data Compiler-> .csv -> ZenCart-> Easy Populate-> Import .csv

    Thanks for the quick reply, I'm just using a .csv file supplied from my supplier, apparently when I copy/paste the description column from their csv file into mine and save it, the description are cut short. I'm not sure if that is the problem or it could be the setting within zencart. I'll try that first and see it that may correct the problem.

    Thanks again,

    I have increased the product description to 300, I ran the Google Product feed again with the debug on and it came up with some errors that said the description was below the minimum of 15. I increased it in the Product Listing section of my admin but I can't locate where I can reduce the minimum so it will pick up these with less than 15 characters.

    Thanks

    When you've run out of settings available in the admin, look to the database at the appropriate table, PRODUCT or PRODUCTS_DESCRIPTION. Each field has it's own settings/limits which you can change. Be sure to record the original values before making changes as a backup.

    Thanks for the info, not exactly sure what database you are referring too though. Do you mean the new .csv file I create using Excel? If that's it, where do I find those settings, I've looked but don't see anything that looks like it.

    Thanks again for the help.
