when i click install nothing shows up

i redownloaded zen cart from the server and overwritten the those files. i tried going back to the express check out and face the same issue..

should i install an earlier version of zen cart?

No, an earlier version of ZC does not need to be installed. Are there extra files in that same directory (includes/modules/payments) as compared to a stock ZC 1.5.1 file set? Are there files in the override directory includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/payments that are different than the other directory above? (There may be a valid reason that differences exist, so blindly overwriting is not always a good idea.)

i don't have a your template directory

i checked the files here and they are the same as stock file set.

To be sure we understand each other. In the modules directory there are only three sub-directories, none of them have the name of the template you are using in ZC, correct? Shipping, payments, and orders I think are the name of the three directories.I too am a little as you say jaded, I installed v1.3.9h, v1.5.0, and v1.5.1 each individually and as an upgrade in one setup and things went fine. It's those odd things that generally have to be corrected/discovered. So, is your current setup an upgrade or fresh install?

thank you for taking time out to assist a newbie. it is a fresh install. in the modules directory there is classic, debug_blocks, order_total, pages, payment, shipping, sideboxes and a list of php files

Well, if a fresh install, then would suggest uploading all of the files again. (Or downloading all of them, comparing to a fresh install and uploading those that have differences.) Sometimes in an upload, one or more files do not get received/saved as they should be and this results in things not working. It could also be a database error, but off the top of my head, I don't know what values would need to be removed from the database to force a clean slate.

nothing happened when i clicked update. the first 2 times i extracted the files on my pc then ftp'd them to the server which caused some files to be missing. on my third fresh install of 1.51. ( i uploaded the zip file to the server and used cpanel to extract the files.)

when i installed 1.39, i did the same thing, uploaded the zip to server then extracted it there. no issues with the cart so far.

i see what your saying with the modules now. yes there are 3 directories under modules in the admin panel payment shipping and order total.
