Moved Download FOLDER - Attributes not seeing new location

HI, I would really appreciate some help. I am trying to move my download folder above my public_html folder so that it is not hackable. I have followed this tutorial

I made the changes to both the configure.php files, but when I put the path in the attributes manager to make the zip file relevant to the product, it can’t see the file. (/home/my_user_name/download/file.zip) I think it is taking the root as from public_html. How do I put the file/path in the attributes manger to show this folder which is above public_html?
Any assistance would be very much appreciated :). Thanks

The site is giving this message
" Warning: The downloadable products directory does not exist: /home/bort72/public_html//home/bort72/download/. Downloadable products will not work until this directory is valid."
This shows that it is adding what I have defined on top of the public_html directory. What is the best way around this.

Can you post the content of your configure files but blank out your password & admin folder etc of course.
