    Default EOL and MySQL versions

I have a couple of clients that are still holding on to v139 EOL version of Zen Cart.

I have to update my VPS to MySQL to 5.5 and need to know if this will break the v139 installations?

Also aside from EOL = no support, is there any security issues I can pass on to my clients to convince them to upgrade to the newest version?

    Thanks,

    No. you'll be fine.

The latest V1.3.9 version doesn't have any known security issues. HOWEVER, a good reason for them to update now is because V1.5.x has even better security (each admin user can have their own login's and be restricted to certain actions), as well as many other improvements.

On top of this, there are quite a number of significant other code changes between V1.3.9 and V1.5.x that can make some installations a bit tricky to update, and this will only get more difficult as time progresses and even newer updates are released. By updating now will make future V1.5.x updates a lot easier, and if they are paying you for updates it will end up being a lot cheaper for them in the longer term.

Other than this, there isn't any *compelling* reason to update... it's just that there will never be a better time.

    Cheers

Thanks RodG for taking the time to answer my questions. I am very happy to know that the MySQL update from 5.0 to 5.5 won't break the Zen Cart database.

Great points re: upgrading to newest version. When v1.5 came out I highly suggested the clients upgrade to the new version and they balked, perhaps now they will finally listen to me.

    Thank again,
