help question USPS module fine tuning.....

    Hey folks...

I'm using v151 on essentially a GoDaddy server with cPanel and have everything basically up and running as it should. I'm having no problems with the cart, paypal, categories, etc.

My issue is with the USPS quotes for individual items.

When putting the items shipping weight in should it include some designation such as "lbs" or "#", or just a number for the weight?

My problem is that when my shipping estimate, or actual, comes up it always charges for my biggest Priority box, or an outrageous Priority amount, for something I have designated as say ".25" in the weight section.

I figure that the cart adds up the total weight of the items in the cart, and then calculates it through the USPS module, but it always goes to say Large Flat Rate Box and charges for that rate even though I have settings in place for smaller parcels, First Class Parcels, etc. I can't find out why it does this.

I need to be able to incrementally go up when things are added, and have a few options for shipping. Say five items and a Medium Flat rate box, or one large item and a Large Flat rate box.

Maybe I missed something on the settings for the USPS, but I adjusted the settings to reflect weight.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Bob

USPS expects the weight in pounds without any unit designation. ie: 1 ounce = 0.0625

FirstClass max weight is 13 ounces (0.8125 pounds) including your tare weight set in Admin/Configuration/Shipping & Packaging. By default, it is 3 pounds which might explain why you do not get any FirstClass quotes.

To filter by # of items that will fit within a certain FR box, we use the weight to trick the settings. We set the maximum weights: SmFR max weight = 1.4 pounds, Regional A max weight = 3 pounds and MedFR max = 7 pounds and then set the weight of our products according to what will fit within what box. Might not work for you or anyone else, but it works for us. Most of our items are small and light. We know that 8 small items will fit in a SM FR and 9 items requires either a 1096L/Video box or Regional A FR box. When the 9th item is added to the cart, the quote for a SM FR box no longer appears.

Also, assume that you are using the March 7, 2014 K3 version

This might be help a bit. I'm sure AJEH will chime in with more technical advice.
