help question Setting up a development server

So, my desktop is in the shop. I'm trying to set up a development server on my laptop, but it just wont work, i've read through and fiddled with every config file. I rsync'd all of the files from the live site, so permissions should be intact. I copied the database to my local computer using navicat, everything's the same there. I changed the db server settings, the path, and the domain settings in the config files (both admin/includes and includes)

The products display, and certain template changes have taken effect, but the css is from the default template. I can't get to my admin section becdause the fresh install or error page pops up. Any suggestions?

Are you sure that EVERY file was transferred fully to your laptop?
What method are you using as localhost, WAMP, LAMP, MAMP etc?
If you are getting the install page for your admin then you are not connecting to your database. That would suggest an error in your admin/includes/config file.

Every single file was transferred completely. rsync makes sure of that.

I use a debian lamp stack.

I can't seem to find any error with the config, but I'll give it another read through.

Did you install a fresh shop -> then just installed the db of the same zc version ?

or did you use the upgrade process?

If your having problems using the upgrade process, i allways just install a fresh version of ZC -> then install the db in phpmyadmin, this way the config files will be generated by zencart installer
