Easy Populate Used to Work Great, Now It Doesn't

Easy populate was working great (v 1.2.5.7c) except there was no access to it from the Configure menu. I could access it thru the Tools menu, run a full export and it worked great.

But I decided the issue of not being in the config menu needed to be addressed. So I re-installed the program. No luck. I then thought it might be a good idea to run the install.sql program but got failure to install errors. Now all I get when I do a full file export are the headers with no data. I checked my sql files and they all appear to be correct. I can export the products into a csv file and also the descriptions into a csv file (I'm doing this thru phpmyadmin). My data looks clean. Another interesting thing is if I try to export the full csv file to a temp directory I get an SQL error.... something about checking for tabs in my data fields. To be safe I double checked the chmod for the tempEP folder and have it at 755. (tried 700 too but no difference) As I say, the data looks clean and when accessing my products thru the website (cheapsheetmusic dot com) it all appears to be working correctly. That was a big relief but I'm still bummed I can't get easy populate back.

There isn't an uninstall.sql file with the program so I'm really not sure where I should start. Any advice on some logical steps to uninstall and reinstall would really be appreciated. Mitch

Based on the information provided, it appears that there is a newer version of that version of easy Populate, which is found at: http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=868

As far as an uninstall, unfortunately one should be included with the program, but when not, basically working from the end of the install.sql to the beginning will help understand how to uninstall it. Inserts become deletes, updates stay as updates, but the old data needs to be known.

Also will want to look at your logs folder to see if there are any other errors to address. Initially I was going to say that the program was possibly not updated to recognize the 1.5.x configuration menu structure, but the file found from the above indicates that it is good to go.

All that said, there are other versions of easy Populate, if you find that you are still having difficulty perhaps you might try one of the others that have been updated recently, there's also a program (I think it still requires some form of registration) called Apsona. Anothernot yet listed in the downloads section but is available is EasyPopulate 4 download is available through the forum's thread.

Wow, thanks for the quick response. I took your advice and moved up to EP4. Everything showed up in the tools & config menu's and my data was fine. EP4 appears to be a solid program so it looks to be the right move all the way around. Big thx, Mitch

Very welcome. Glad you made the change. Should still look at what it would take to uninstall the old version at least so that your database doesn't have remnants in it. Generally speaking won't hurt anything to be there, but is extra information that will be carried over in backups, upgrades, etc... I may take a look to see what the install script does (unless you care to post it here) and possibly provide an uninstall. If you do include it here, please surround the code with (but use uppercase for all the letters) they work like html tags in the forum, so the code itself goes between the first block and the second block of that pair of blocks.

Oh yeah, I forgot that there may also be some portions installed within the code itself, so I may still need to download the package to fully help.
