I am getting some 100+ spam emails a day from this page. From what I understand, this is coming from folks getting paid to sit and do this so using CAPTCHA will not work.

I am wondering can we create a list of exclusion words in a new table. Before sending the email, run this form back through filter that checks for "spammy" terms. Would this be possible? Anyone else getting loads of emails from this?

Have you been blocking the ips of the spammers?

I have tried that in the past, and it ends up being a "chase your tail" thing. Stop them today, next week they use a different one. I am not convinced that they are even reported by the correct IP...most likely another hack?

That's one of the approaches that WordPress takes ... with success! I regularly have oodles of spam from blogs' comments that are nicely weeded-out via those "excluded" words.

I looked into Askimet yesterday in the hopes to find a GNU version that could be implemented like it is in wordpress. However, it is a commercial software.

I saw a GNU php spam filter call b8 that I am looking into.

With regards to the contact us page in question, is there only one way to fill out a contact us message? Ie, is it only possible from the actual page with main_page=contact_us or can it be filled out with a popup or similar?

well, not 100% sure...but the Anne's Abbington Mega/Mega Menu has this in a menu instead of the page.

If not mistaken, the mega-menu is a pre-existing "template" that just happened to get packaged with her templates. By default, it does not contain any additional protection like offered with the official contact_us form in zc 1.5.1+ there have been a few options suggested to mitigate the spam through the mega-menu. Either update it to have equivalent checking code as in the contact-us page, modifyit so that the data is captured and passed on to the actual contact us page, disable the drop down part so that there is no form to fill out, but clicking on the contact us link takes the visitor to the contact us page, or anymixture of the above or something else that does something similar. I know there are most of the above solutions offered inthe responsive sheffield blue template forum, but probably the same in some of the others.
