Default Setting up categories after feed is uploaded

For shoes, I would like to differentiate for color, mens, size, heel height...etc. Will ZenCart let me categorize this after the feed is up. Or what is the best way to go about this?

    Thanks

As far as mens vs womens, you would set each in it's own category.

Zen Cart uses attributes to allow shoppers to differentiate between sizes, colors, etc. http://tinyurl.com/oph2ymv is an example of such a usage.

Note that each selection has a please select as default. If the customer doesn't actually make a choice, they receive an error message. Otherwise, someone could order something they really didn't want. http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.p...3090#post33090 is just one of many explanations in the forum. Thank you... But I also was wondering if there could be links whereby shoes are set up by group(s). i.e. all black shoes, wedding shoes, pumps, strappy heels, heel heights, etc., or do these meticulous have to be set up as categories before I upload the feed.

    Thanks

Of course. You can set up Men's shoes, Men's tennis shoes, Men's loafers, Men's lace ups, etc.

The trick is to create a category that pertains to all men's shoes (Men's Shoes) and add all of the men's shoes to that category. It's always good to set all the attributes while in the main category.

Next, create all the categories that might fall under Men's Shoes. I.e., Men's Black Shoes and Men's Brown Shoes. You could even have them as a sub category under Men's Shoes by Color, BUT be careful not to create too many levels. Folks don't like to "drill down" too far to find what they are looking for.

Then, you would use the Copy method to link all the black shoes to the Men's Black Shoes category. When you click on the Purple Circle Button with the C in the middle, you only have to select which category to put the link into as the Link and Copy Attributes are already at the default.

The advantage, you ask? You only have to set up a master category, sub-categories, and enter products/attributes in the main category. Then, copy them wherever you think they will fit.

Best of all, if you need to edit one of the shoes, you just edit the listing in the master category and all the links are updated as well.

Thank you so much! That's what I needed clarity on.

Can I also put some of those category links anywhere on the store page (i.e. like links at the top of a page in the cart)?

    Thanks

Anywhere is complicated but, Zen Cart does an excellent job "out of the box".

Time to set one up and play. No better way to learn.

I created my temp folder and I see the test csv file there. However, none of the products came through. I made one store category under shoes. The data file is set up with the correct headings. When I browsed for the file then uploaded it, EP says it was successful, I see the csv file reference at the bottom of the page, but no products. Am I missing something?

    Thanks

If you are talking Easy Populate, then it's time to head over to the support thread for that. http://www.zen-cart.com/showthread.p...=easy+Populate

Just want to get some further clarity on setting up categories and sub categories.

    1. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to setting up all the products in categories instead of subcategories? and

    2. When the products upload, what authorizes them to go to the specific categories I've set up for them? Sorry if this is obvious...

    Thanks
    Brenda
