zencart 1.53

This error has suddenly started appearing rather than the website

"Call to undefined function: mysqli_connect(). Please install the MySQL Connector for PHP"

Luckily its just the test site and it had been working fine up till now, I haven't touched it in weeks and went to look today and had that error instead of the site

The real site which is 1.39h is working fine

I am guessing the hosting company has changed something, but what exactly should i be looking at?

1.5.3 uses mysqli instead of the previously used mysql functions in the lower zen-cart versions.

Your host needs to compile and load the mysqli functions onto the server

They are now included as standard in php 5.4
You didn't downgrade the php version did you?

The host is a cheap bucket host, so i couldn't even if I wanted to downgrade, the thing is 1.53 was working fine and then suddenly it wasn't, I realise zen 1.53 uses mysqli so it probably means that for some reason the host has removed support for it.
anyway i have lodged a query with the host
