Images are 'corrupted' when downloading customer uploaded images from admin

I hired a developer I've used in the past to quickly fix a small problem when customers who uploaded images with long file names kept erroring when trying to download them from the admin. I would have to FTP in and download once in a while. I also asked him to extend the timeout, even if PCI compliance is sacrificed.

Well I exchanged a couple of minor inconveniences for one BIG one.

This morning when trying to download new customer order images that were uploaded, they download but then it says the are corrupted when viewing on my mac or a pc preview app. Some of the time they will open in Photoshop. Stranger still, if I FTP and download the images, they are intact. It's frustrating because I paid the developer to fix a minor problem, who I've worked with before on Zen cart, but now that was a waste of money and I have to hire someone else likely to figure it out.

I asked him today to figure what happened but says that what he did should not have caused a problem however the problem i'm having is with the very thing I was having him tinker with. In the end he said he couldn't figure it out and couldn't find anything in the forum either. *face-palm*

Is the good doctor in? My employee is computer retarded and this is a huge problem for us. I'm leaving from LA to Seattle Monday and I can't have this problem right now. /cry

For two days now, when trying to download new customer order images that were uploaded, they download but then it says the are corrupted when viewing on my mac or a pc preview app. Some of the time they can be viewed and printed in Photoshop. Stranger still, if I FTP and download the images, they are intact. He increased the file name length of characters somewhere. I was tired of having to FTP in and download once in a while when customers uploaded a file that had a stupid long name. I also asked him to extend the timeout, even if PCI compliance is sacrificed.

The developer wants me to pay him to re-do the upgrade that I did. The site has been working flawlessly with the exception of these minor problems that have now been made worse. I exchanged a couple of minor inconveniences for one BIG one.
