Removing "Featured" "New" Tabs Entirely From Index Page

Hi All,

I am wanting to entirely remove the "Featured", "New", and "Special" tabs from my index page. However if I go to "Configuration > Index Listing" and select "0" for Show New Products on Main Page, Show Featured Products on Main Page, and Show Special Products on Main Page, I still get a tab and box on the main page (albeit, completely blank).

Here is my question:

How do I completely remove the box from my main page?

Without a site link to see what's happening, I can suggest:
Log in to your admin -> to go Tools -> Layout Boxes Controller -> make sure your "Featured", "New", and "Special" sideboxes are turned off.
