USPS update notice inside admin–BOLD RED even...

How is it that the current USPS shipping
module listed in the Modules > Shipping
is intelligent enough to know when it's
ready to be replaced by the next version?
I find that to be quite, er, sophisticated,
snazzy, neat in a nerdy kind of way.

Is its code looking for a certain file, or a
certain location, or a particular string of
a version number somewhere, or even a
date and when it finds it a flag is triggered?

I think I may need to buy someone a
drink for that...

That was some fancy code Ajeh asked me to write so that it could alert you if the plugin in the ZC plugins library was newer than the one in your store. It makes a request to the plugin server to ask what the latest version is, and tells you if they're different.

Also, the plugin_version_check_for_updates() function is present within ZC core since v1.5.3, and takes 2 parameters: the fileid for the plugin on the ZC plugin site, and the version number you wish to check against.

Mine's giving me the bold red update notice, but I have the latest from January 17, 2016.

Save your settings and then try a REMOVE/Install and reconfigure it and see if that corrects it ...

I did that, kinda blindly. I installed the "update" only to notice afterwards that the version was the same. Still have the red warning. Seems to work fine, though.
