Definitions of controls

I've answered many of my own questions about what this and that does, seems like the short definitions provided in admin are vague or consist of unknown terminology. for example,
admin -> configuration -> Sessions -> prevent spider sessions ,,,, definition is "prevent known spiders from starting a session." That tells me nothing about why, what happens etc.

another example is,,,

IP to Host Conversion Status ,, "Convert IP Address to Host Address
Note: on some servers this can slow down the initial start of a session or execution of Emails"

Once again why would I want to do this,,,

If we can get all the controls defined in one location, I'm sure that there will be much less confusion
and more up time for stores.

Granted so0me are self-explanatory, but all should be documented, with images if possible.

Google is great for finding answers, as well.
And don't think we're "blowing you off." I think it's better to read what Google has to say rather than trying to figure out what someone is paraphrasing.

Google useless.

Just one example, many more.
I'm willing to put forth some effort to document the controls, but as far as Zen goes, it's mostly the art of motorcycle maintenance, I have very little experience.

There is a website created by a member here which provides some more explanation of admin configuration options, but I can't remember the URL or the member's name (pretty sure she's a woman, though, and her main business is Zencart consulting). Maybe someone else will remember.

Another way to find out what admin switch does what is to use the search_configuration_keys mod for zencart versions prior to zc153 (note: this mod has been incorporated into Admin > Tools > Developers Tool Kit since zc153) to discover where the switch is actually used in the php files. Can also be used in reverse, ie to discover whether a snippet of code (usually capitalised) is an admin switch, a language define or other. When used in conjunction with WebDeveloper or Firebug tools provided by Mozilla's Firefox browser, you may even get to see any changes you make to the admin setting in action.

Caution: some switches in zencart are best left unchanged until you are more certain of their effect.
